Can-Compactor for the K6-Kids

Can-Compactor for the K6-Kids ā€“ January 2015

In January 2015, with the resource assistance from SIF, Students from Bond University and members of the Kirakira Works Department (similar to a small council works depot) constructed a hydraulic can-compactor. The compactor was donated to the K6-Klub (Keep Kirakira Klean Kids Klub ā€“ Pidgin & English) to assist the children with processing and selling the collected alloy cans. Most of the cans collected by the children are picked up from the street and the can-crusher enables the storage of the collected cans for back loading to an off shore recycling centre. The compactor was constructed from a 7-ton hydraulic log splitter, and various recycled materials.
